What signals do you use with your partner to indicate your comfort level?

My husband and I (both 44) know we will need a handful of signals/words/gestures to communicate with each other when we jump into the LS (hitting our first club soon!).

Iā€™m curious what tricks other couples use to communicate.

Here are the areas that I think weā€™ll want signals/words to help us understand the otherā€™s current state of mind: * to show when one of us is uncomfortable * to indicate weā€™re okay with the current situation * when weā€™re okay with accepting an invitation/trying something thatā€™s suggested * something to check in on my partner and inquire about his current comfort level * definitely a clear signal to indicate we need to stop the current situation/leave the club

This feels like a lot, so may get confusing, but I definitely want to not try and guess whatā€™s going through my partnerā€™s head. Seems like that could lead to disaster.

Maybe Iā€™m underestimating the amount of opportunity weā€™ll have to actually talk about things while weā€™re there. But signals/words seem like an easy lift for any environment. Maybe we reduce my list to only handle ā€œget me out of this situationā€ and ā€œcan we have a quick chat to touch base?ā€

What signals do you all have? Do you use words, hand gestures, something else? Does this become less of a need the longer youā€™ve been in the LS?

Throughout an encounter, we will say the numbers or show fingers 1-5. 1 being there is no way weā€™re doing this, 3 meaning not sure yet, so letā€™s stick this out a bit longer, and 5 meaning all in. Lowest number is the deciding ā€œvoteā€.
