As a full swap couple who, on occasion, entertains meeting single M’s.. it amazes me how many people reach out on SLS/SDC from locations 2-4 hours away under the premise of being “in our town often for work” and “wanting to get to know us first”. Logistics are the hardest part of putting together dates (even moreso as parents), and one of our biggest LS regrets at this point is the time wasted on guys who flake. Other couples (who inevitably get inundated with single M’s as well) do you give these discussions the time of day? We’ve gotten to the point now where chatting is solely a precursor to meeting in person to gauge chemistry.. which seems to shut down the discussion; thus justifying our stance.
If we like the guy’s profile we always say we need to meet first with no play on the table. That usually weeds out the distance guys as they likely won’t make a multi hour trip just to be basically interviewed with no play option.
In our experience, “in town for work often” means once in a blue moon, but they have a trip coming up to our town and want to hook up those specific dates.

Excellent tactic! We’ve implemented this, but it inevitably turns into some guy who is “ok” with that and wants to chat a bunch beforehand. We don’t want penpals.
