I just replied to a post about SLS/SDC and it reminded me of a funny story about fakes, so here is my anecdote.

We talked with a couple on SLS and set up a date with a couple that was very good looking but also 10 years our junior. The date was supposed to be at X bar, but hubs and I realized the bar closes very early on the night in question. We messaged the couple and suggested a Y bar. They didn't reply, so we decided to start out at Y bar on our own, with the intent of going to X bar at the designated time.

We walk into Y bar and the couple is there.We assumed that they'd gotten our message but not communicated back. The look on their faces was PRICELESS. It turned out that they were there with vanilla work friends. We didn't make it weird or announce to their friends why we were there.

As we made conversation with the original couple, it became pretty evident that they'd never intended to show up for our date. Obviously, that is their right but it would have been nice if they'd just messaged to cancel. We never figured out if they were game players, changed their mind or what, but think that they just enjoy toying with people.

It didn't damper our evening in any way. We just moved along to bar Z and had a great night laughing at their faces when they realized we'd "caught" them.
