Planning to meet? How far in advance?

I travel a lot and try to meet people online and plan out things in advance. However, many times I will strike up a conversation just to be immediately ghosted if I am not free that day or even that moment. In my mind there needs to be established trust and communication not to mention safety before playing with others. Are there really that many people out there that get by not planning even a day in advance? Is this just another level of crap to sift through online?
What do you prefer as to time from chatting to meeting, do you plan months out, weeks out, days out, or completely spontaneous?
