Is a second date a big ask?

Very new to the lifestyle, not super crazy selective, but one of our rules is to have a “ get together” to decide in a no pressure situation how we feel about the other couple, and then add a little bit of time for us to council and discuss. To our logic this makes sense, it makes play more fun because they’re less questions and less of a liability of a red or yellow card. We have been upfront with couples prior to meet ups on our rules to let this be made aware to them, but some of them treat us as idiots like we don’t know what the lifestyle is really about. Are we breaking rules or being difficult?
