I've decided that to get where I want to be in terms of swimming, I need to join an adult swim club. I need structured workouts with more variation, and I need to learn from people with more experience. I've found a club with convenient practices (local affiliate of US Masters Swimming), and I'm psyching myself up to go to my first practice this week.
I'm hoping for some advice from the wise voices on swimmit. I've never posted in this reddit before, but I've greatly benefited from the advice you've given others. I have some pretty strong Socially Awkward Penguin tendencies, and the way I deal with my anxiety before putting myself in a scary (to me) situation is to seek out as much information as possible.
To that end, what should I know before my first group workout? I haven't done a formal, organized swim workout since summer swim league in elementary school. I meet the minimum stated requirement easily (1000 yds continuous; this summer I added 2K open water swims with an informal group as a regular part of my workout schedule), and I've been reading the Masters Swimming 101 articles from usms.org, but I'd love to hear from y'all. What should I know before I show up?
