Which cores go with which equipment?

My understanding is that you use one or more of the āspecialā cores, and a lot of the basic ones, to AF a piece of equipment. If thatās correct, how do I know which kind of special core that item uses?
Also, any general advice? Iām thinking I should hold off AFāing my regular gear in favor of getting the S grade things to red. Iām also holding off salvaging things in case I can use them later. Am I being too conservative?
