Inventory management
Post Body

One of my biggest pet peeves about this genre. Currently playing Grounded solo but I find my inventory is constantly a mess and my tools and weapons are in random places in my inventory all the time. i.e. holding a weapon takes it from my inventory and puts it in my hands which frees up that inventory slot for random junk so when I put my weapon away it's now in a different slot. I'm not 100% sure that's exactly what's happening but all I know is that things aren't where I expect them to be, and after 1000s of hours playing survival games it's frustrating.

One game I absolutely love in this regard is Terraria. You can quick stack to nearby chests, your ammo takes different inventory slots, you can reserve slots for items that aren't even in you inventory at the moment, you can craft using materials in nearby chests, etc. They handled it so well and why other developers can't look at that and do something similar blows my mind. Millions spent developing these games and nobody was like "hey, my shit being moved around all the time is kind of annoying"?

There are so many QOL improvements these games could make but they just don't and it's so frustrating. It almost feels like these games are being made by people who don't actually play video games, which probably should be expected from a megacorp, and is why I almost exclusively play indie games.

What bothers you? What kind of standards would you apply to the genre if you could?
