Doing an assignment for metrology at USQ this week. One of the questions is to develop a VBA script to calculate some kinematics equations for acceleration. VBA is a pain in the arse to use (and I've been a programmer for over 20 years).
Which got me thinking. Are there many surveyors here who do programming as part of their surveying job or to help in their surveying job? Anyone forced to code scripts for Excel in VBA?
And what's a good approach to convince my lecturer to use more modern technology?
I've got a Computer Science degree as well as Spatial Science. It's been extremely handy when working with ArcGIS (VBA, Python) and making up scripts in the mining software we use. Everything has a programmable interface these days.
In my experience, the ability to write even small amounts of code has meant I'm able to automate a lot of office tasks making my job significantly easier.
