Hello Iโm a homesteader hoping to survey my own land to get contours for planting. I have huge respect for this profession and I know I canโt just rent some tool and do what you all have trained and worked hard to perfect. That being said I just need topo contours to base a planting plan on and nothing legal or binding. I worked with a surveyor in the past who used a pole with a gps sensor that generated a point grid he then made a model from. Is that something I can rent? Is there another way to accomplish this? Thank you!
Agree with the other commenter. There are a few apps which can use online sources such as contour maps from government spatial databases and the GPS/GNSS receiver in your phone which will be good for up to a few metres. Contour maps are usually in 5 or 10 metre intervals from these sources which are useful enough for picking a contour and following it.
You could even get a Bluetooth unit to stick on the roof while you drive around with stakes in your tray to make it easier.
