Help/Tips for Surf Fishing NJ

I’m an avid freshwater angler and fly fish for the most part. I go to the beach a reasonable amount in NJ and have recently been trying to catch fish in the surf.

I’ve tried several boats such as bloodworms, minnows, sand crabs, clam and even mackerel and have yet to catch a fish. I’ve been using mostly hi lo rigs as well as a couple others.I went out this weekend and fished off the 10th street jetty in Avalon and had several nibbles and bites that I could feel but no fish connected to my hook.

Looking for any tips/advice to finally be able to catch a fish in saltwater.
