You may have noticed several major Reddit subs are dark right now. We considered joining them but decided that would not be as productive as explaining what has happened. /u/chooter (Victoria) is an admin for Reddit who is universally loved by the community. She handles all the Reddit AMA's on /r/IAMA and works closely with the mod team. Without any explanation or contact with the AMA mod team, chooter was fired yesterday. This set off a sitewide event last night that is still ongoing. Moderators all over reddit are furious about this and have closed their subreddits in protest and solidarity.

There are many things the reddit moderators want fixed. Modmail is the most archaic and ridiculous system you could possibly imagine. Every now and then the admins will pat us all on the head, but it never gets the complete revamp that it desperately needs. More tools for moderators are needed. On the bigger subreddits these needs are amplified exponentially.

We stand with the moderators that have chosen to close their subreddits. Reddit Admin has been in contact with some of us but we need to see real tangible changes in how they handle the community and real changes in systems that were never designed to handle the traffic reddit currently has.

If we thought it would be at all helpful towards this end, we would have closed this subreddit as well. We felt reaching out to you guys and explaining the problem was a more beneficial way to get the message out.
