[Spoilers S1-10 - Midweek Summer Discussion!] Keeping with our Character Discussions: Which NON-Family Member do you see as most important to the SPN Story - and Why?

By "Non-Family" member, I mean anyone not with Winchester blood. I know that Sam and Dean readily create family out of friends and that is a huge theme, which we will talk about next week, but of those people not born into the Winchester line, either who became "family" or didn't - which do you think was most pivotal to the boys' story and why?
Edit: should we add a "Besides Bobby and Cas" to make it more interesting?
