I have spent the past 5 years almost completely immobile with the exception of walking through my small apartment to the bathroom and kitchen. Anytime I leave the house it's in a wheelchair because I have no strength in my legs. Being 394 pounds for the past several years has definitely been a big cause of this, I also had 2 pulmonary embolisms in 2018 which caused breathing issues.
I went to the movies with my stepdaughter on Sunday and we chose regular seats since I know I fit in them at this theater. It meant having to walk down two steps to get to the seat and then 2 steps back up to get in my wheelchair. I can't believe I did it!! I haven't stepped up anything other than a sidewalk curb in years and doing that is difficult. I almost cried I was so excited!
I decided that I'm going to work very hard at regaining my mobility and walk again. On Monday I walked 136 steps at one time, this is HUGE! I usually walk 20 steps to the bathroom or kitchen and then sit to catch my breath and wait for the pain to subside. Yesterday and today I walked the same distance twice. I'm going to continue for the rest of this week and then increase it to 3 times a day. I'm not able to go much further because of being so short of breath and in pain but I will get there. As I improve in those two issues I will increase the distance each time.
Yes, I'm cheering myself on and I have to say even though it takes a lot out of me it feels good to do it.
