A possible what if scenario
Post Body

What if.... Snape never turned "good?"

Might be an interesting path to go down and see how it might have changed things.

Haven't put too much thought into myself yet. But I do think it would ultimately lead to harry losing. And, due to the lack of a great deal of thought, there's a high chance I've missed out some obvious detail that makes my idea wrong. Snape, having loved lily, begged voldermort to spare her. And it was this that lead to voldermort telling her he'd spare her if she gave harry up. And thus, her refusal gave the protection. Simply dying for a loved one isn't enough as James would have protected both lily and Harry had this been true. So it was voldermorts reluctance to kill her without hesitation that allowed her to willingly choose to sacrifice herself. So in a way, Snapes love for lily protected her which let her protect harry. And, without her protection, I think the conclusion of the series is one where harry loses.

I know, that if Snape hadn't swapped sides there is a chance he may still have asked for her protection. But the reason he went to dumbledore was to beg him to try and save her. And I can't see him asking voldermort and not going to albus. So for this what if scenario, I'm saying he did not ask for her sparing from voldermort, which in turn, means he didn't pledge himself to dumbledore.

Sorry for it being a bit of a long one, I waffled a bit while typing it out.

P.S. my phone kept autocorrecting dumbledore to tumbletown which I thought was pretty funny. New nickname for him from me 😅
