Looking for a general purpose use laptop for my family. Mostly general office-y/web-browsing tasks. I'll want to use it for some gaming, mostly things that won't be available on my PS5 and I'm fine playing on medium settings if I have to. Wife might do some Photoshop, and I might want to do light video editing if I start taking more home movies.
Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
$500 - $1000 USD. Wife would prefer lower! I'm fine going a little higher if the value is there.
Are you open to refurbs/used?
Yes to refurbs.
How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
We'll mostly be using it at home, so it doesn't need to be super-portable. Decent battery life would be good, but we'll never be too far from an outlet. Would like it to feel good and not cheap.
How important is weight and thinness to you?
Not very important.
Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
At least 15 inches, I think. I don't want it to be too small.
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Wife will probably want the option to use photoshop. I may want to do some light video editing down the line. I also play some games.
If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I'll mostly play games that I can't get on my Playstation. I like ARPGs and strategy games on the computer, and I'm fine playing on medium settings if I have to.
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
I like a keyboard that feels good. Would like it to have a decent number of USB ports. May want to plug into an external monitor down the line. Will definitely need a port for a mouse. Don't care about touchscreen.
Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
Just need something general purpose, not too crazy, but with enough beef to do some gaming.
