Hi there! I’ve been through a few laptops over the years, and as my video editing hobby has grown so has what I ask of my computers. Currently I have an old desktop and a broken laptop that are both on their last legs, they have multiple issues and are gasping their last breaths...therefore I need to find a replacement. Until the day I can save enough money to buy some ultra-insane-powerful desktop, I really need a laptop to work off of, not only for constant personal use but also video editing. Of course, wading into the world of laptop and specifications is very intimidating, therefore I have come here! Thanks for any help in advance :)
Total budget and country of purchase: $1000 or under, USA.
Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. No I don’t care at all about a 2-in-1, I have an iPad. Battery life isn’t the biggest concern for me, as long as it’s decent, since I don’t plan on doing extensive traveling with this or anything Yes I would like to get the most out of my money, my previous computers have been really underwhelming attempting to handle video editing, so it’s very important to me that I get a laptop that can finally handle what I ask of it
How important is weight and thinness to you? Don’t really care.
Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows, preferably. I’m open to Mac but I’ve never had one before so idk if I want to jump down that rabbit hole of getting used to a whole different system. Whatever’s the most reliable, really...
Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Video editing Currently I use Lightworks (with extensive use of proxies). However, I really want a machine capable of handling other advanced video editing programs like Premiere Pro, Sony Vegas or Davinci Resolve. I’ve never been able to try my hand at these before bc my computers couldn’t handle them, so it’s important to me that I find a laptop that can (hopefully this is possible within my budget)
If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A not a gamer
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Good touchpad
Multiple USB ports & an HDMI port is important too, I use it to connect to other monitors
1TB hard drive
16GB RAM, my old laptop has 8 and that sucks
Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Thanks for your help! :)
