>15" Laptop for UK university student under £350
Post Body

My girlfriend who is going to be studying languages at uni wants a laptop, she'll basically need it for basic word processing and general internet usage and skype. Now, I don't really know much about these things so I'm asking you nice people of reddit to help me out!

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Country of purchase: UK

  • Budget range: up to £350

  • Purpose (netbook, ultraportable, mainstream, gaming, desktop replacement, etc.): reasonably portable for word processing, internet browsing, skype and maybe watching dvd's

  • Screen size preference: no smaller than 13" but 15.6" is preferable

  • OS preference (Windows/ Mac/ Linux): Windows

  • Any particular style that you like (examples are great): Unassuming, no loud colours.

  • Which of the following qualities would you prefer? (Choose one, the other, or balanced)

  • Long battery life -vs- Low weight: Balanced, leaning towards low weight (not heavy, she'll be carrying it around a lot)

  • Build quality -vs- Low price: balanced

  • Low noise/heat -vs- High performance: balanced

Would you pay a premium for something that has:

  • High resolution screen: no

  • A great keyboard: maybe

  • A great touchpad/mouse buttons: no

  • Great audio: no

List any features that are critical: (Optical drive, USB 3.0, SD card slot, ethernet port, HDMI port, bluetooth, removable battery)

this seemed decent enough to me, what do you think?

Any advice at all is much appreciated.
