Need a laptop for college

I need a laptop for college and didn't realize how expensive most of the popular ones are like the Microsost laptops. I only managed to find a few affordable options that were still good for the money, like the Acer aspire 3. However, I was wondering if anyone here had other recommendations for affordable laptops or if I should just use scholarship money to buy a better (and more expensive) one like an Asus or Microsoft.
