hello!

i'm in the market to replace my eluktronics max 15 g-sync model while it's still working so i have a backup in case i need it again. it's already lost a usb 3 port, so sooner is better.

what i liked about the max 15:

  • powerful i7 CPU
  • very low dpc latency
  • 2070 115w video card
  • mux switch to change the wattage consumed
  • not huge, 15" is plenty, and it's light
  • thunderbolt over usb-c

what i don't like about it:

  • loud!
  • hot!
  • battery life is terrible
  • showing its age when i get into larger projects

i was looking at the new eluktronics mech with the i9 13th generation cpu until i saw the dpc rating is quite poor on the new models. it has a 4080 and comes with an optional liquid cooling system (quiet!). it's ideal at the price point with 32gb ram as well. but with a dpc rating over 6,000....

what would you suggest? i haven't owned an AMD chip in about 15 years, i'm not sure how they are pound-for-pound with heavy loads on both single-core and multi-core uses, often at the same time.

looking spend something like $2000. thanks!
