I see lots of people say "Shiv doesn't know how this works." Shiv's my least favorite character, bar none, but I'm genuinely not sure what people mean by this. For me, the statement doesn't mean much on its face. My takes:

• What does it actually mean to "know how this stuff works" in this world? What is it about Logan that makes him so adept at whatever he does? Seems like he mostly relies on domineering and bullying people into submission through brute force or even abuse rather than acumen. He's not a leader, he's a tyrant. Not a schmoozer, not a wonk, not a visionary. He's a bulldozer. "A killer."

Oh, wait ... didn't Logan drive the company into the ground with debt?

• At this point, out of the 3 siblings, Shiv is by far the least apologetic, deluded, or queasy about what her family name gets her. Yes, she could probably rack up more wins with a little finesse and willingness to read a room. But does she really not know how this works, or is she actually clear-eyed about it? Not the most SKILLFUL, but again, what does that look like in this show? How much does skill come into it with nepotism? She brought Ravenhead to heel with the "because Dad said so" card pretty efficiently. It wasn't artful, but then, it isn't Dad's style to waste much time with pleasantries or precision either.

• Sometimes Shiv shows awful judgment doing Logan's dirty work and it blows up in her face. Okay, well, Roman literally blew up a goddamn rocket ship. On a scale of "nailed it" to "shit the bed," Kendall alone has literally shit the bed in addition to figuratively doing so.

So I'm genuinely curious what Shiv's being measured against--what's the gold standard in their world for knowing how it works? What's the special skill set Shiv is missing that gets her called out for being clueless in a way that her boorish tactless father and pathologically mindfucked self-sabotaging brothers don't?

For my money, the person who "knows how it works" (whatever "it" is) is the guy who capitalized on Logan's little apocalyptic debt problem and fucked Kendall in the process: Stewy!
