So I just had a post up and apparently gave the wrong impression, so starting over.
Of the 3 days I have subbed, 2 have been block days where the periods are 95 minutes. That is a looong time to sit there, and have kids just sit there. By 20 min left they are clearly done with whatever they had on Google classroom and are just out of it talking or on their phones.
Now in all the little training they had for me, and in the little "guest teacher handbook" they give you it says to always have games or some discussion item ready for down time.
I am hearing that is not the case for high school, instead just take it and sit there, which is what I did, except for one period where they just were getting way loud so we played hangman for 10 minutes.
So, does anyone try to do anything in that situation? Specifically with older high schoolers?
