The post in question regarded a student who gave herself an insulin shot in class, and provided a snarky come-back to a classmate who wanted her to leave the room to do this.
Needless to say, battle lines were drawn in the comments section. Some highlights (please note this is just highlights, there's a lot more back and forth on the original post):
She could have did that in private. Some people like me are very squeamish about needles. Makes me feel faint and triggers panic attacks. I know I'll get down voted for this. (Editor's note: this prediction was quite accurate, sitting at -209 at the moment)
I feel like their discomfort is not outweighed by the diabetic’s literal right to stay alive, which is kind of the point of the post lol
smh/...I am not saying that she doesn't have the right to stay alive, but does that mean they should just do it anywhere they want without warning others like me? Panic attacks usually put me in the emergency room. I do feel for people who have to deal with illness, but they should also understand that there are others with conditions or phobias too, and should consider that before whipping out a needle without warning. A warning would have been considerate.
Well don't you live in a nice little world that's all about you? So special!
Youre talking about your panic attacks and how maybe being squeamish would trigger that. You realize you're comparing that to type 1 diabetes???
Your lack of perspective and empathy is really shitty. Shut up, Debra!
I see both points of view. Needles and injections don’t bother me even if it’s in an unexpected location like a classroom. I used to work with a fellow that had to give himself insulin injections in the bathroom during office hours and I barely even noticed. On the other hand, if Debra or others are disturbed by it then couldn’t that girl go to the bathroom for the shot? I’m pretty sure she will live the additional sixty seconds it takes to walk down the hall.
This person is trying to keep from letting their sugar levels from harming their vital organs, eyes, fingers and toes. If that makes you uncomfortable get fucked
Doesn’t make me uncomfortable at all. I used to have to give insulin injections and do blood tests. My point was that there are people that can become ill from seeing bodily fluids. If such a person is present and it’s not an emergency, it just doesn’t seem that taxing to walk to a private area to administer the test or injection. God you’re a whiney little cunt... calm down
Or how about you just fucking look away? Why does the fault fall on the person trying to protect themselves from dying and not the person investigating what they are doing? Mind your own damn business
It doesn’t bother me you illiterate shit sack. As I’ve said to the other 30 people I’ve triggered, if I were a diabetic and it wasn’t an emergency, just a regular shot 20 minutes before my meal, I would do my best to handle these things in private for the benefit of other people that might be put off by it. I wouldn’t sit there and think “I’m sick so if somebody is made uncomfortable by this then they should go fuck themselves”
Yeah, a bathroom isn't really a hygienic place to give a shot.
It’s an intramuscular shot that can be administered standing up over the bathroom counter. Not a huge risk of infection. Also classrooms are covered in bacteria so let’s not act as though it’s a far more hygienic location. Edit: I am aware it’s subcutaneous injection, I simply wrote the wrong term. I apologize to everyone.
Type 1 26 years. I am not about to take my shot in a bathroom, thanks for playing.
I use a pen. I can put on a fresh needle, inject into my arm and be done in less than 30 seconds. I do not want to put my pen down on a bathroom surface at any point.
Pansy ass snowflakes can just cope. You may not and that’s your prerogative but many people do use the bathroom to administer their injections. The bathroom at our office (same place I worked at with my diabetic friend) had a discarded sharps container across from the sink.
Yes, we are forced to because precious snowflakes feel icky poo when they see needles. It's fucking ridiculous that any person over the age of three needs me to hide behind closed doors to test my blood sugar or take a shot.
Well go start an organization or keep fucking whining on Reddit. Jesus Christ.
Some parts really spiraled out of control
And as a bonus we had some grammar nazis show up:
Injecting the work "like" in every sentence is a hallmark of someone who should never be taken seriously.
People that focus more on the way people speak rather than what they say don't deserve to be taken seriously.
I agree, you should focus on what they are saying rather then how they say it.
That being said, I still personally find it incredibly annoying when someone overuses ''like" in a sentence.I don’t know why you’ve been downvoted. I agree with you and have upvoted you.
As well as an appearance from /r/thathappened
All in all, dear lord that was a sprawling shit-show. Here's the removeddit link
Edit: tl;dr for the comments in this thread: "Just look away"
