Oil consumption
Post Body

Hi all, I have a 2013 forester with 121k miles on it. I just got it about 4 weeks ago. Drives great everything works as it should , sounds great no weird noises (no louder than a normal sub). The only issue is oil consumption during long traffic drives. When I got it I drove 1 hour in stop and go traffic and the next day I checked the oil and it was about 1/4 of a quart low , topped it off. Drove it for a week in regular traffic (not stop and go just cruising) and I had 0 oil consumption (about 400 miles) , it’s been great within almost unnoticeable oil consumption until today… I again was in stop and go traffic for around 40 minutes. When I got Home I was curious and checked the oil, I was about 1/5 - 1/6 quarts low. Seems to burn oil in stop and go traffic. I’ve been doing some research and found out that sub used to use 5w30 and switched to 0w20 (extremely thin oil) to be more “fuel efficient” as well as “loosening the engines internals” (aka letting the engine burn oil and simultaneously causing less friction). My question is can I switch back to the heavier 5w30 ? And will that help with the oil consumption since it’s a heavier oil?
