Suspension Bushings & Cutting The Cost of Fixing The Broken Suspension!
Post Body

Just went through my first Lower Control Arm repair process. Dealership wanted $300 for one control arm...Asked what the price was for them to just re-bush the control arm, they do not do this....-_-

Ended up buying the bushings, spent a day trying to swap them, and found out a place called Machine Shop exists. I was referred to a Machine Shop was able to help with keeping original metal suspension components and swapping out the bushings!

Not sure what the cons or negatives are of Re-bushing the suspension components, so I am hoping to hear back some other ppl thoughts regarding this decision.

The idea of having to throw away a perfectly good control arm is not environmentally friendly way, so moving forward its a nice idea to work with mechanics and dealers who are down to work with re-bushing procedure Vs. creating extra garbage / waste by taking the faster, "more expensive sounding", already in place solution to just pay for the new suspension component with fresh bushing already installed.

I am so thankful that I was able to perform these repairs myself without causing the further damage to vehicle! Woohoo (So far.)

Situation #1 2 bushing cost = $75 1 Machine shop Labor = $80 1 My labor = $500 (not sure how to bill it because I am not really mechanic, just not found the right shop other than dealer).

1 tools = $250 (some returned, some not returned).

T o t a l $905

No real warranty other than for....bushing failure? A strange feeling of paranoia taking the car up to 5mph, 10mph, 15mph....ETC (Will go out later for the 45MPH to 75MPH test. Also will perform alignment at one shop I went too that was trying to win repair deal).

Vs.

Situation #2 1 New Control Arm = $300

1 Mechanic Labor = $900

T o t a l $1,200
