If I am on an IBR plan (PAYE) and I am making payments over the minimum amount, should ALL of that amount be going to principal?
Post Body

I ask because I noticed around $60 of each payment is put into paying interest that accrued that month. I was wondering if it SHOULD be going to principal instead of interest and if I have a choice in that. My minimum payment right now is $0, so that should make this easier to figure out. I'm just wondering if I need to call Great Lakes and have them change all my payments to principal only, or if it's unavoidable that some of the money HAS to go to paying the accrued interest for that month some reason.

Edit: I mean really it probably turns out to be the same because if the interest accrued that month wasn't paid it would be tacked on to the principal, but I just wanted to check.
