TLDR; Denied tax advance, don't know why. I have been threatened with tax garnishment by Department of Education but was told I'm still in the clear since I'm eligible for a Rehab program. Behind on Nelnet too but not as bad. They said they don't look at credit reporting and there is nothing else that I know of that would cause the denial.
I am behind on my Student Loans so they threatened to take my taxes if I didn't respond immediately. When I called they said I was in the clear if I signed up for this rehab program. So I did and now I'm just waiting for my paperwork to come in so I can make my first payment on this new plan. Feeling confident that I was OK to proceed with my taxes I went to H&R Block so I could get an advance on my refund. I had already done them myself but hadn't submitted them yet. I only went to them because I wanted my money faster. Stupid I know. So I agreed for them to take out $94.95 to cover the fees for them and the bank. She said she saw no reason for me to be denied so she encouraged me to proceed. Well I got denied. And now I am out almost $100 for nothing because it won't get here any faster. My concern is why I got denied. I was told they didn't look at credit reporting to determine eligibility since they know the money is coming from the IRS so that just leaves me wondering if my Student Loans have something to do with it. My credit score is 419 which sucks but I'm not being threatened with wage garnishment for anything.
~If I'm in the clear with the DOE and they don't check credit what else could it be?
~Could this be a sign that I have a bigger problem around the corner?
~Should I be worried that I will be loosing my tax return after all?
~Or is this just a case of a random H&R Block employee making me feel confident that I will get approved so they can get their fees?
Thanks is advance for any help. I could use all the advice I can get right now. I know I've let my credit and debt(It's all Student Loans and medical) get out of hand but life happens. I'm trying to get back on track with a solid plan that I think will help me catch back up but it's going to take time.
Edit: I guess I learned that what I already knew I'm my gut was true. Shouldn't known before hand but oh well. Thanks for the info everyone.
