Is there a real difference between a freedom rack and a smith machine?
Post Body

Took a tour of a local gym today and talked to the guide/trainer about my main requirement being mainly for a power rack.

He mentioned how they had two and when I was shown them I immediately noticed one of them looked a lot like a smith machine. He said it’s not a smith machine but a freedom rack. Although there are still two bars attached to the barbell it is not supported like a smith machine and it can be moved up, down, forwards and backwards.

Is this type of rack ok for most lifts in the StrongLifts program?

Thank you
