Getting ear initially pierced at 12 gauge, how bad is it?

I have one ear pierced and currently has a 14 gauge in it but I could easily put in a 12g jewelry, unfortunately my other ear isn’t pierced at all. I did have both pierced a year and a half ago at either 18 or 16 gauge but the right earring fell out and I neglected to find a replacement and then it healed. Recently I’ve liked the idea of gauged earrings and easily went from a 18g to a 12g somehow but didn’t wanna wait months to stretch the other and thought piercing it with a 12g needle would be better. Is this practical and how much more painful would it be?
