Now, a lot of people think Billy is racist because out of all the characters, he chooses to target Lucas and say "There's people you want to stay away from, Lucas is one of them" But i don't think Billy was being racial about it. I just think that Billy was saying that because at the time, Lucas and Dustin was stalking her and in that time frame, or in any time frame, you want to stay away from stalkers.
To me, it came off as Billy "caring". Not really caring but more as so that if Maxs goes missing, his dad will take care of him and i don't think he wanted that. Montgomery even that said that he also feels that it wasn't anything racial and that if it was any other kid, he would do the same thing.
So why was it so racially charged? Montgomery explained that the Duff brothers wanted him to say a word that would racially target Lucas (he didn't say what word but it's not rocket science) Montgomery refused and both decided just for him to say that.
So, i don't think Billy is racist. But the Duff brothers couldve maybe wrote the scene as a little more...clearer instead of with foggy glasses.
