(Repost) I just realized that Eleven is a great example of how to make a strong female character without toxic feminism.
Post Body

The problem with most female leads nowadays is making them seem superior. For example, look at Captain Marvel (a movie that I personally enjoyed, but has its problems). Carol Danvers is pretty much invincible, and is made to be the smartest character in the movie. Meanwhile, Nick Fury isn’t very useful, and is kind of an idiot. After all, he has an incident with a cat later on....

Eleven isn’t meant to be superior to everyone; yes, she has superpowers and is saving people a LOT, but it’s not like she’s the only person needed to save the world. All of the other characters are still relevant, and they’re not dumbed down compared to Eleven. And she’s not always hating on or criticizing male characters as much as other female leads do nowadays.

It’s just a huge relief, and seems properly done, at least in present day.
