I was just posting about something else that involved the Lopen saying his second ideal.
When he did, he asked "why not before when we thought were were going to die?" (OK, I praphrased).
The Stormfather replied that he wasn't ready.
Well, what changed in the short time since the battle?
I've said elsewhere that I think that Resonances exist on different levels (maybe as reflection of each plane). The Windrunners have Gravitation and Adhesion.
I think that means that they bring people together. e.g. The way Bridge 4 became such a tight unit and, except for Moash who made his own choices, Kal inspired them to be better men (and woman).
Kaladin wants to help people, not just protect them. He may not be aware of it, but he's big on personal responsibility and he takes it upon himself - feels it's his responsibility - to help others.
It may seem like I digressed, so now I'll bring us back to my point. What changed for the Lopen in the brief time between the battle and his visit to the infirmary?
He helped the newly one armed man. He inspired him and I think this man will be his first squire.
The Lopen is becoming a leader of men.
Teft was the second to be chosen by a spren and he's the picture of a sergeant, also a leader...
