Was prescribed adderall during covid, which l've taken the past 3 years. I climbed the ladder quickly during this time and landed in product management.
Now that l've been off adderall for about 6 weeks, l'm terrified I only got to this position from the unnaturally high productivity the drug provided. I find myself in a daily struggle to get anything done now, beyond sitting in meetings, responding to a few emails (maybe) and knocking out one small task if I'm lucky (not happening most days)
With the job market being complete shit, I have so much anxiety and guilt about if I lost this job and not being able to land another in a reasonable amount of time. We also just bought a house last year, which adds to my anxiety about this situation.
Any PMs or others in tech that quit stimulants and have any advice to share?
Adderall is not a performance enhancing drug. It is, however, a major confidence booster.
Itβs amazing how far people can go when they believe in themselves.
