I just got my 46 months sober from meth. My life has improved dramatically. I have been in recovery for 14 years. What recovery means to me is a few things. What does recovery mean....I think it has many definitions and that recovery is just as complex as the circumstances that dictate it. However, i do believe that part of the definition of recovery is.
Anyone who is recovering from a destructive and/or self destructive habit or impulse, Recovery also is recovering from any sort of trauma, whether that be a physical, or emotional, or mental or spiritual trauma. Recovery is about physical, mental, social and spiritual recovery.
Recovery works in every community and in many lives. Recovery is a Whole community affair and endeavor. I feel that there needs to be a recovery union or something established. A network of connected individuals that anyone can participate in and depend on. Alot of infrastructure exist in the support and pursuit of recovery. Rehabs, Sober living homes, halfway houses, crisis centers, Centers like Amare(which fuctions as a crisis center/sober clubhouse of sorts...like a boys and girls club for people in recovery.....this idea needs to be expanded in my opinion)churches, hospitals, police, judicial and legal representatives..the list can go on and on.
We need a active union or club or gang or whatever.....something that people can be a card carrying member of wherever they go, so to speak. People see the cost of addiction and alcoholism and trauma firsthand on a daily basis. We need to have recovery just as visible.
I am going to make a t-shirt that says recovery works and start picking up garbage around town. It may seem small but if every person in recovery wore that shirt when they got a achievement or was doing something for the community or someone else, it would have a impact. If other people wore the shirt who, in their own lives recovery was working, it would have a impact.
Something i thought of earlier that i wanted to mention here at some time was that before my addiction my life was much simpler. My addiction made my life so much more complex. Somewhere after two years a proccess started in my life where my life became more complex sober than when i was in active addiction. the difference is im able to deal with it today. God bless you guys.
