Being Present and Sporting Performance
Post Body

Hi fellow Stoics,

Hope you are all well.

I like to share a very important lesson with you all. This year, I started to change my approach towards competing in sports. And this comes after reading Williams Irvine's book "Guide to the Good life: the art of stoic joy".

I used to be really bad in sports. And I mean really bad. My win to loss ratio was embarrassing. But the thing is, I really wanted to be good in sports.

I kept on day dreaming about being this superb sports players. But I could never make the mark.

I was annoyed. I was frustrated. I almost quit playing sports all together.

So what change did I make that helped me improve my sporting performance? Well I decided to focus on being present. That means not worrying about outcome of competition or the game that I am playing.

And believe me this makes a huge difference. Rather than day dreaming about the outcome or even focussing on winning. I just focussed on playing my best game, regardless of the outcome.

I actually wrote a blog post about this, where I go into more detail. You can read it by clicking on the link below:

I believe many sporting athletes have incorporated this mentally into their game.

I hope this post has given you some food for thought.

Thanks for reading.
