Sort functions

Perhaps I'm over looking something simple here. I found this that makes me think I should have access to multiple sort functions. I also found that I can make custom playlists.
I can't figure out how to apply this knowledge. The only function I have made work successfully so far is alphabetical. I am most interested in the sort by difficulty (E/M/H) and sort by artist.
