I just received notification of the death at age 96 of Admiral Hema up Fol. He was, quite literally, days away from retirement.
Admiral Fol did the vital but thankless job of rounding up and taking all the smaller, less defended systems while the bulk of our fleets defended the one weak point separating our recent conquests from the rest of the enemy empire. As he was completing this series of orders, pirates were discovered in a system neighboring Admiral Fol's home base of Mura.
I sent Fol's fleet after the prirates, as one last errand before returning them home. Shortly after, I received notice that the pirates had been dispatched. "Good work," I said to Fol. "Return to Mura for repairs and upgrades. This war is all but won already; you can count on bringing a few new medals home to your family soon.
But it was not to be. Before the fleet had even reached Mura, Fol had died. Apparently of old age.
To Fol. He died, as he lived, keeping our empire safe.
