Understanding Map Movement

Post Body

I would say I am fairly new at the game still but something I am having trouble understanding is fleet movement and placement. Sure it's fairly straightforward how to move them but I think it's hard to visualize and understand how things will move (in terms of days and months and possibly years to cross the space you own) and so understanding how to strategically place ships is not intuitive for me.

Are there any general rules or tips that anyone out there follows? Is it best to keep your fleet concentrated at the center of your territory during times of peace? is it best to keep them split at either end of your territory so you have a force ready to strike out quickly if need be and to defend the far ends of your borders? Thanks for any tips!
