How to configure USB Bluetooth dongle?

I have a Bluetooth dongle that works fine on my Arch PC but when I try to use it on the steam deck it won't work. I go to desktop mode, open Bluetooth config, select the dongle from the drop-down, and check "enabled". Next, I disable the steam deck Bluetooth, but then when using the dongle to connect or pair it doesn't work. Has anyone else gotten a USB Bluetooth dongle working?
