Cloning Steam Deck SSD vs Reimaging?
Post Body

Not to get TOO into it... but given the current emulation climate and everything... I'm trying to figure the best way to upgrade my deck's SSD. I want to get a 2TB SSD and move up from the 512 that my LCD deck came with stock. I was holding out for tax season, it is upon us, and I'm about ready to pull the trigger and order my stuff and get to work...

...except now I'm wondering if it'd be smarter to clone my existing SSD instead of just removing it and installing a new one to reimage. Both in terms of just duplicating settings and also in terms of acquiring files that I'm not 100% sure I still have on my PC to restore on the deck.

I absolutely play my deck DAILY. I go through spots of emulation and go back and forth with some bigger games like BG3 and Cyberpunk. I also remote play my PS5 with it... I do a LOT with the thing... so I don't want it to be out of commission for too long.

I don't mind taking the time to do the work if I know it's gonna be worth the investment... but I have questions before I get to it... and the last thing I want to do is brick the console somehow.

I'm curious if anyone's had experience with doing an SSD clone? What's the PRO/CON of it vs reimaging on a new drive? Any idea how long cloning the drive would take on average? Anything else I should think about or consider before going into this "project"?

I found this guide online and it seems simple enough but it doesn't really address the specific questions I'm coming up with.

Thanks for any insights that you can provide.
