[Discussion] Third party USB cable does not work?

NOTE: Not really a support question, as I dont need help with it, just wondering if anyone else has had it.

Ive run into a rather odd situation regarding using the controller wired. I have a USB cable that I bought last year for my phone, and its worked perfectly fine with everything. But when I plug it into my steam controller, the controller lights up and turns on, but sends no input. It just acts like its turned off.

The same situation with the wireless extender brick, when its plugged in the controller acts as though the dongle is completely disconnected. However, when I use the cable that came with the controller (for either wired or the extender block) it works perfectly.

My phone cable definitely has the data connection intact, as I can access the phone when its plugged in, so I dont know what would be causing this. Has anyone seen something similar?
