A lot of the interface is going to be clunky and as stated by the dev, this game isn't for casuals: why are so many people complaining about the interface? If you dislike it, refund it because the dev has specifically said the game isn't for you (you dirty casual, REEEEEEE).
Having said that, if you can figure out how to press E, F, and R and still have brainpower left for breathing, the interface should be a breeze after the first hour so I'm thinking the interface complaints say a lot more about the person than the game.
Complicated games have complex controls so that efficient players can interact with the game in nuanced, detailed ways without having to have the system "assist" the player and potentially fuck them over (ever played a shooter with auto-cover mechanics?). Certain things could be improved with inspiration from other games, such as tools only activating on the same type of object as it was activated on originally (from Cities Skylines) so you never accidentally unwrench frames while taking out pipes, but largely, I'm expecting a learning cliff like Dwarf Fortress or SS13 and I'm terribly confused as to why anyone else isn't.
