After poor weather and bad timing in North Texas of the past few months, we will finally be doing another live virtual star party this Saturday night for the Fort Worth Astronomical Society. Away from city lights at a dark sky site in Grandview, Texas, starting at 8pm and going on until we're exhausted. It's been a while since we was able to do a live show, with moonless nights often clouded or rained out.
This weekend, Venus will be low in the western sky just after sunset, with the crescent moon above it. To the east, Saturn will be rising, followed by Jupiter, and Neptune. If we stick around late enough, Uranus should be visible after midnight.
To the south, we can look to Sagittarius towards towards the center of out galaxy, and overhead, the Summer Triangle looms. The darker the sky, the more visible the Milky Way - in town, the light pollution washed it out, but far from the cities, we can see much more of it.
We will have telescopes with attached astronomical cameras, taking images of the sky, viewing the planets and moon in real-time, and if we have time, perhaps even doing some spectroscopy and detecting methane in the atmospheres of Uranus and Neptune.
