Sorry its taken a while between posts due to work committments but I hope you enjoy this edition of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
Stargate SG1: The Good, the bad and the ugly (Season 1)
After the scintillating finale, we see Season 2 build upon the relationships established in the previous season. We also see the protagonists seek out new allies and take the next step to unlocking the mysteries of the universe. Key story-lines are introduced and developed throughout the season, some of which are strengthened in future seasons. While Season 2 had some cracking episodes, it also had some very forgettable ones. This, however, can be forgiven given the infancy of the series.
SEASON 2
The Good - The Fifth Race - Episode 15 - There were a couple of episodes this season that may have taken this category but The Fifth Race is the victor and is easily one of my all time favourite episodes in the entire franchise. Everything in this episode showcases the Stargate philosophy and takes the viewer on a journey of varied emotions. The initial confusion along with the classical comedy perfectly mask the seriousness of what is happening to O'Neill. The musical score also plays its part beautifully and supplements the fantastic storyline especially in key moments such as "Chevron 8 ... is locked?!?". The first interaction with the Asgard is one of the pivotal moments of the franchise and also epitomises the respect that both races develop for each other throughout the franchise.
The Bad - One False Step - Episode 19 - My nomination not only for this category but for the worst episode of Stargate SG1. This episode does nothing to progress the storyline and gives me a headache (much like the team in this episode) every time I watch it. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to have humanoids who dont speak but instead scream/sing should be locked away. The episode has nothing going for it and the story is so slow to get to the point that it makes the reveal all the more cringy (really... plants?). There is a tiny bit of character development and the usual banter but those dont make up for the trainwreck of an episode. If there is any episode you should avoid, it is this one.
The Ugly - Out of Mind - Episode 22 - One of the weakest season finales, this episode starts off well but then descends quickly into a glorified clip show. Typically, season finales should be directed in a way which leave you hanging for the conclusion but I did not feel this level of attachment particularly as Hathor was only involved in one previous episode. The episode does not fully explore Hathor's motive (only fully explained in the second half) and feels almost as if the writers slapped something together since they ran out of bad guys as a result of Apophis' "death". I think the Tok'ra double episode could have served as a better finale or even something to do with Sokar who was way more badass than Hathor.
Hope you enjoyed and as always I would be very interested to hear the community's feedback and thoughts!
