Stargate SG1: The Good, the bad and the ugly (Season 1) SPOILERS WITHIN
Post Body

Hello fellow Stargate fans,

Having first watched Stargate over 20 years ago, I thought it would be a good idea to do a short series of posts on the good, bad and ugliest episodes from each of the seasons in Stargate (special exemptions may be required for particular scenes/lines). Obviously these will be my own opinions but I would be happy/interested to see the thoughts of the community.

Naturally these posts will contain spoilers for those who havent seen the series! You have been warned!

Before we begin though, an explanation of each:

The Good - fairly straight forward. The best episode of the season. Episodes that made you go "OMG!" or squeal like a girl with excitement. Only the cream of the crop will get this distinction. This will be the toughest to decide in my opinion as some seasons have multiple episodes worthy of this title.

The Bad - Any episode that you loathe. Episodes that are not worthy of the Stargate name and should be deleted from existence if you had the chance. Some of these will be open and shut cases but could be a tougher choice in certain seasons.

The Ugly - Reserved for those episodes that had so much potential but were just ugly in their execution. Episodes containing cringe worthy moments or continuity/plot errors (but were not the worst). An episode you would watch again but with a bit sadness about what could have been!

Without a further ado, lets go back to 1997 and Season 1 of SG1 where the fun began:

SEASON 1

The Good - There But for the Grace of God - Episode 20 - A huge toss up between 'Torment of Tantalus' and 'There but for the Grace of God' in this category. Both contain Daniel at his philosophical best. Both are super serious. Both start storylines pivotal to the entire franchise. In the end 'There But for the Grace of God' provided me with the widest gamut of emotions throughout the episode. And who can forget the last words in this episode uttered by Daniel which keep us hanging....

The Bad - Emacipation - Episode 3 - Enough said. After the adrenaline and sadness of the opening two episodes, we get served a steaming pile of excrement. Often ranked by the community as one of the worst episodes of the entire franchise, Emancipation is plagued by poor writing, screenplay and acting. The only redeeming point is the use of Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as the main villain. His role in the Mortal Kombat movie in 1996 made his character all the more believable in this episode.

The Ugly - Children of the Gods - Episode 1 - After so many years, it's hard to go back to where it all began and watch the pilot. I spend most of my nitpicking the inconsistencies that were introduced later in the show. From the death glider, to how Apophis was able to dial out, to the baby faced cast, to some cringeworthy dialogue; the original cut of the pilot has not aged well. Add to that the unsavoury nudity, it is no wonder that the producers decided to remake this episode and release an updated version after 10 years.

Well thats the first post done and dusted. I would be very interested to hear the community's feedback and thoughts! Ill try to make these as frequently as I can and I do apologise in advance for any errors in formatting or lore!
