Going through a rewatch of SGA again and I canât believe I didnât catch this any of my previous times. In the beginning McKay and Lt. Ford suggested the name âGateshipsâ for the puddle jumpers and Shepherd overrides them and says itâs a bad name. But then in season 3 episode 11 the Replic-Ancients call them Gateships indicating that the Ancients themselves used the name Gateships for them. Itâs a subtle throwback/joke but I find it funny.
Very true points as well. I definitely think there was a double entendre there because the show hints at how shepherd is secretly way smarter than he lets on

Puddle Jumper is a very commonly used word in the real world to describe small aircraftâs that travel between airports of short distance to each other. Like say when a bigger commercial aircraft canât get you to the specific destination you take the commercial aircraft to a nearby airport and then a small puddle jumper to the smaller airport at your destination. I assumed thatâs why shepherd was calling them that. So I didnât think it had to do with their isolation from earth. But interesting to hear about the other episode referencing it. Iâll keep my eye out through my rewatch.
