Why is it that locations I discover on a planet never show up when I'm orbiting said planet?

This really annoys me because some of these locations have ship pads I could land at but because the location doesn't exist from orbit and I can't fly in atmosphere I'm reduced to playing ferry to get all my loot to my ship. âšī¸
