Meeting all these lost souls in every city and having nowhere meaningful to send them feels like a missed opportunity. Imagine being able to populate an entire settlement that you create somewhere in the galaxy.
You could settle other parts of Akila or Jemison, which both feel oddly bereft of meaningful human settlements outside of their main cities. Or you could go full L.I.S.T and settle unexplored, unprotected systems. Some kind of pirate encounters where you either pay them off or defend your base would be cool too.
Could have different community types as well, like having an emphasis on mining, research, production, defense, etc. It would also be nice to be able to set up merchants, doctors, and the like at these locations.
Something like this could be done with mods, although it could also come to fruition with a hearthfire/vault-tec workshop-esque DLC.
I realize this is basically trying to replicate the settlement system from Fallout 4 but on a larger scale. Still, it feels like a strangely absent feature in a game about exploring the galactic frontier.
I dunno, what do you guys think? Would you like to see something like this, and if so, what other features would you like to see?
