Starfield contains a variety of features intended to make it possible to setup a resource operation. All of them are bugged and unusable. Here they are:
Resource prospecting
There is no list of planets you surveyed. You either keep a spreadsheet manually with every planets resources noted, or you look it up on the internet, which defeats the whole purpose of prospecting.
Storage containers
They only come in one size which is tiny. For ships there are like two or three dozen cargo modules, but for outpost resources only one. So to get usable storage sizes, there is no other choice than to build huge stacks of them and daisy chain them with links.Update: With some skill you get bigger containers.- Linking containers together is glitchy, sometimes the chain is just broken and you need to start over.
- Links dont update while sleeping.
- Links only work irregularly
- There is no way to separate resources, so if your cargo link hauls in multiple resources, and storage fills up, you get no more of the resource you need.
- Snapping placement of containers only allows to build walls, because you cant snap to the front/back
- If you link containers in a wall, you cant delete the links because they are wholly inside the containers
Cargo Links
There are like 50 or so resource types, so to build a resource operation you need lots of outposts. Cargo links are supposed to help, but they only link 1:1 cargo links, and there is a max of 3 cargo links per outpost (until you lvl up). So you daisy chain cargo links with two on each oupost, but daisy chaining is broken…With some skill there are bigger ones- Cargo links dont fly ships while sleeping. There might be a pile of resources on the other end, but they only get there if you are awake.
- Cargo ships only load up with only one resource type
- When picking up resources, there seems to be no order or logic, it just grabs what the outgoing container is most filled up with most of the time. So if anywhere along your cargo link chain an outpost makes a lot more of one resource type, that is the only thing that will come trough cargo links
It is clear that in Starfield the whole ouposts/gazillion resources/cargo links/storage containers/fabricators is meant to work in concert. But none of it works. I am sure there are plenty more bugs, which did I miss?
