Post Body
Here is a list of a majority of things that people have a gripe with when it comes to Starfield. I gathered these from Reddit. If I am missing anything, please feel free to drop it below and I will get it added to the list!
First some key points:
- Everyone has a right to their opinion on what they like and don't like. You don't have to agree. But don't be some white night asshole for the game, or vice versa, some asshole doomsayer. Respect one another. Keep discussions civil.
- Several things SHOULD have been part of the game and Bethesda has had many games and opportunities to realize this (7 years of development for this game). It should never be the expectation that a consumer gives a company money to buy an incomplete or broken game just so that modders can fix it. If that's a way a company wants to perform, they deserve the criticism.
- Remember that just because you don't experience some of these issues, doesn't mean that do not affect a majority of others. Especially considering the game was developed specifically for Xbox, not PC.
- Just because things are on this list, does not mean I myself agree with them all either. I am simply trying to be respectful of everyone's opinions and give an opportunity for everyone's issues with the game to be heard.
Ship/Hab Building
- Need Hab Preview in ship design
- Needs option to turn off auto-snap
- Fix Camera viewing when building outposts/ship
- Needs option to turn off auto-snap
- Should be able to use same greenhouse plant on any planet once learned
- Need more detailed descriptions of what each module does
- Need clearer indication of what required part is missing
- Outposts need more cargo capacity if they require so many resources
- Should have ability to build a ship from scratch
- Improve furniture placement
- Lack of tutorials for both
Gameplay QoL
- Need ability to eat food without adding to inventory
- Need ability to read books without adding to inventory
- Need proper city maps
- Need some form of on planet ground transportation
- Less black loading screens. Make them more âinteractiveâ
- Needs hot swap button to swap between two weapons
- Accessing inventory shouldnât take multiple clicks
- Need Console Keyboard/Mouse Support
- Need ability to transfer weapon mods or disassemble
- Digipicks and âmagazinesâ should be removed from the âMiscâ Tab
- Improve ShipĂłInventory Transfer (ability to see mass for both)
- Improve UI for inventory
- Need ability to lock favorite weapons from being sold
- Vendors should have more money to buy things
- Add shoulder swap in third person
- Remove tracked materials from list once quantity is met
- Need a column for âowned Quantityâ for items (especially resources)
- Need ability to fast travel to player housing
- Cities should have information desks and touch screen kiosks (not just shopping malls)
- Need ability to roll and adjust throttle while also using thrusters
- Fix UI layout/placement of EXP gain, etc..
- More info on items in containers or on bodies prior to looting
Graphics/Performance
- Need performance optimizations (especially on PC)
- Need official DLSS support
- Missing FOV Slider
- Missing HDR Features
- Missing Brightness/Gamma/contrast calibration
- Overuse of color filters (Ugly green tint)
- Everything is âGrey/Whiteâ shaded
- Black levels are extremely poor
- Fix how New Atlantis trees look
- No Ultrawide Support or is significantly lacking
- Fix Menus and ship reticles locked at 30fps on PC
- Game Crashes a lot
- Load times on Xbox is insane and break immersion
Companions
- Crew should be able to man weapons
- Crew should be able to pilot ship
- Crew repeats the same few phrases over and over
- Need to add evil/morally grey companions (forced either âgoodâ or to play solo)
- Romance options are terrible
- Should have pets
- Less Nagging Companions
Game Design
- POIâs overused way too often
- Planets generally barren with little to no combat
- Way too many load screens
- Just feels like âFast Travelâ The Game
- Cargo Missions are pointless if all you do is fast travel
- Lacking space content
- Rested XP buff is WAY too short
- Almost all combat in the game is against same enemy just renamed
- Needs Melee Weapon Mods
- Lack of exploration or world building outside of main cities/outposts
- Need more weapon diversity/variety (not just stats)
- Radiant System is very lacking especially when compared to previous titles
- Economy system is very lacking
- Dying upon area transition because enemies load in and start firing before you are given control to move
- Need ability to purchase mods for weapons
- Need underwater exploration
- O2/Weight management is absolutely horrid
- Need Ammunition crafting
- Ability to leave ship in space (space walk)
- Ability to Salvage gear for materials/mods
- More variety on space creatures. Everything on planets is just too âsame-yâ
- XP for smuggling, surveying, mining, etc.. is not worth doing compared to just combat.
- Planets lacking biomes
- Ability to land your own ship and take-off
- Melee doesnât feel impactful
- Should not have current day politics force fed in a video game
- Should have the ability to not have to pick âpronounsâ
- Stealth gameplay is extremely lacking
- Poor Dialog (very dated)
- No real use for all the âJunkâ in the game. Should be able to break it down. Not always worth looting due to weight design choices
- No real impact to the âChoicesâ you make in game. All leads to the same thing
- Powers just feel like a step back from Skyrim or other games
- Should be able to communicate over radios/phones. Why make it a forced travel
- Forced to register a stolen ship before selling to pirates
AI Design
- No NPC Schedules
- Floating NPCS
- NPCS without helmets on planets
- NPC voices donât match lips
- NPC faces are ugly and bad
- Need better AI pathing
- Fix slow walking is slower than NPC walk, yet normal walk feels like you are running past them
- AI enemies are just âdumbâ. Horrible AI
- Fix the balance with Ground combat vs. space/ship combat. Ground is just insanely easy, but space combat difficulty spike is insane.
- Enemies are generally just bullet sponges
